Rubén is just 16 years old, and hails from Barcelona where he is in his final years of secondary education before heading off to university. When he’s not at school, Rubén spends his time cycling, playing video games (especially racing sims, naturally), and watching F1. He will race with the name CoRe R.Blasco, the number 94, and red-accented CoRe skins. Welcome to the team, Rubén!

He’s a primarily open-wheel driver who comes to us from a tenure at Sonicrealms Racing, who picked him up after his initial stint with the German Gamers Club. Sascha is an 18-year-old hailing from Saarlouis, in the southwestern region of Germany, where he’s just completed his A-levels and plans to go on to study Chemistry at university. Though he’s a single-seater specialist, Sascha hopes to learn the GTRs and become a regular in CoRe’s GTAL and IGTC squads. He will drive with the name CoRe S.Riegler, the number 91, and red-accented CoRe skins.

Welcome, Sascha!

19-Apr-2010 – With some longtime drivers departing and some new drivers arriving, a shift in the culture at CoRe Racing is upon us. New ideas, new attitudes, new faces…things are changing at CoRe!

The past couple months have been a strange time for CoRe Racing. Like most other teams in LFS, we’ve been experiencing a downswing in activity from most members, but we nevertheless managed to win our final race in MoE this past season at Kyoto National. Moreover, we celebrated our 5th anniversary as a team on April 9th.

However, in the wake of the end of the MoE season, frustrated with this stagnation in LFS and within the team, several of our long-time members decided to leave and form a new team with some others. Therefore, we say goodbye to Nolan Scott, Phil Diaz, Arni Arnason, Dennis Lind, and Ken O’Keefe. We wish them well in their new endeavors and hope to see them on track soon.

***

With all of this said and done, we are pleased to announce that CoRe Racing has plenty of life left. In addition to our remaining core members, we are glad to announce the signing of four new drivers who will substantially add to our team’s strength:

1) Pedro “BSantos” Santos, brother to our youngest and most enthusiastic driver Rui Santos, comes to us from My3id Gaming and SpeedCore Racing Team, and looks to quickly become a leader within the team. When he’s not racing, he’s probably either playing football or studying for school. Pedro will drive with the name CoRe P.Santos, the number 10, and yellow-accented skins.

2) Ariday “ErAri” Bonilla, a promising young driver from Spain, is 17 years old and hails from the town of Arrecife, where he’s in his last year of school before going to University. He plans to study in the sciences. When he’s not playing LFS, he has his fun as an amateur rally co-driver and spending time with his friends. Ariday will be using the name CoRe A.Bonilla, and yellow-accented skins with the number 13.

3) Marcelo “bacabinha” Neiva comes to us from Sonicrealms Racing, where he had some MoE experience, before briefly serving a member of the Brazilian team Maximum Racing. Marcelo is 16 years old, and studying for a degree in medicine. He spends most of his weekends glued to LFS with his friends, which should make him a perfect CoRe member. Marcelo will use orange-accented skins with the number 95 and the name CoRe M.Neiva.

4) Kaique “KaiqueBRA” Piropo also comes to us from Maximum Racing. The young Brazilian is 15 years old and from the province of Bahia, where he is a high school student. Kaique has raced in IGTC, MoE, ITCC, and GTAL, giving him the experience needed to move up to a bigger team. We expect him to be a great addition to our squad. Kaique will race as CoRe K.Piropo, with the number 18 and red-accented skins.

Welcome to the team, guys!

1-Feb-2010 – CoRe Racing fairs well in the iRacing Rolex 2.4 at Daytona.

The 2010 Rolex 2.4 became one, if not the largest, single event turnout in iRacing history. Over 950 drivers showed up for the 2.4 hour race, which featured the Riley MkXX Daytona Prototype at Daytona International Speedway.

During qualifying week, it was clear that the Pro Series drivers would have the experience needed to put their Riley Prototypes on pole. Road Pro Series Champion, Richard Towler, put his car on pole with a 1:37.372. CoRe Racing’s Klaus Kivekäs would qualify 4th of the 885 qualifiers with a 1:37.769, the fastest of the CoRe drivers.

When the green flag dropped Klaus Kivekäs and Pat Dotson found themselves in split 1, starting 4th and 15th respectfully. Klaus dodged some early race incidents, including the Purdy and Alfalla incident early in the race, missing the crash by literally inches. This, combined with being held up in the early stage of the race meant that by the time he could get into podium position the leaders were simply too far ahead. Regardless of which, Klaus’s 3rd place finish is a very strong one considering it was behind the race winner Richard Towler, and 2nd place finisher Jeffery Rietveld. Pat would endure some mid-race difficulties but some how miraculously manged to rally back late in the race to take a very strong 12th place finish.*

CoRe also had two drivers participating in split two. Nolan Scott and Kenneth O’Keefe would start 8th and 9th behind an old Live for Speed rival, David Williams from My3id Gaming, who would start from pole. David showed a strong pace, but unfortunately timed out after leading 18 laps. This would hand the lead over to Nolan, and he would sail to trouble free victory, leading 60 of the 90 race laps. Kenneth didn’t have it so easy, and was forced to battle Ville Niemi for the runner up position. Kenneth would run in 3rd position pressuring Ville for nearly the entire race. Ville finally made a mistake in the final third of the race, and Kenneth would bring the car home for a strong 2nd place finish, nearly 15 seconds ahead of 3rd.

Long time CoRe member and Live for Speed veteran, Phil Diaz, used this event to make his return to the iRacing simulation after a long five month hiatus. Phil started the race in 3rd position of the 3rd split, a race which turned out to be the closest of all the 2.4 hour splits. It was so close in fact that the top 3 drivers were separated by less than 3 seconds, neglecting the pit stop offsets, for nearly a 60 lap period. Phil and Jaroslav Honzik stretched the battle right down to the end of the race. Phil trailed Jaroslav by under half a second in the closing laps, but the combination of lapped traffic issues and a strong pace from Jaroslav’s meant Phil would have to settle for a 2nd place finish, only 1.8 seconds behind 1st.

Lastly, Justin Kirby showed an amazingly strong pace. Justin lead 26 laps in his split, and showed that he was one of the fastest drivers in his race… Unfortunately, Justin was collected in an incident with a lapped car in the bus stop chicane. This ended his race, but showed that he had what it takes to run up front.

In summary, it was a great day for CoRe Racing and we are very happy about our performance. We want to thank the iRacing administration for putting together such a great event and we eagerly await next year’s Rolex 2.4.

28-Jan-2010 – CoRe Racing expands the iRacing division yet again, and is proud to introduce two long time simulation racing phenomenons

First up is Vesa Saarela, a 35 year old husband and father from Lahti, Finland. Currently he is working as an IT manager for a large global corporation. Also, Vesa is an avid photographer and video producer, and we look forward to seeing his work. Vesa, along with many of CoRe’s recently added members, has an extensive simulation racing background, one that stretches all the way back to the 90s. At the time, Vesa was very competitive in GPL, and won several Finnish championships. After a short hiatus from racing, he returned to the rFactor simulation in 2006, and has been continually racing ever since. Currently, Vesa participates in iRacing, and maintains a strong A road and D oval class licenses.

Secondly we have a long time CoRe Racing friend, Pat Dotson. Pat is a 45 year old husband and father of four from Kokomo, Indiana. Pat is a Purdue University Mechanical Engineering graduate, and is currently working as a Mechanical Engineer for Delphi Automotive Systems. In his spare time, Pat is also currently working on innovative sim-racing products. Unique to other recent signs, Pat has done quite a bit of real life racing. He has competed in SCCA autocross events, has won indoor series championships driving 4-cycle oval karts, has successfully developed, built, and competed with an innovative oval kart chassis of his own design, has attended the Track Attack racing school in Indianapolis, and is currently driving a CRG 100cc sprint kart. If that’s not impressive enough, Pat has been simulation racing in leagues since the early 90s. His list of accomplishments is literally astounding, and clearly shows why Pat is able to maintain an iRacing Pro license in both the oval and road divisions.

CoRe Racing is proud to have these veteran drivers members of the team!

First up we have Timothy George, a 45 year old field service supervisor for the Schneider Electric company in Sanford, NC. Tim, as well as the other members in this expansion, bring to CoRe Racing something we have never seen in such a dominate proportion, and that is experience. His long history in the sport of online simulation racing stretches as far back as the mid 90s, using the NASCAR Racing 2 simulation software. Since, Tim has participated in just about every oval and road racing simulator you can possibly imagine. Currently, Tim is participating in the iRacing simulation and holds a Pro Oval and A Road class licenses. On a side note, Tim is an avid weightlifter and has participated in many body building events, so you better not piss him off…

Secondly there’s Trevor Hunt, a 29 year old business owner from Greenville, SC. Trevor’s extended simulation racing career also began in the mid 90s, using the same NASCAR Racing 2 simulation. After an extended break from racing to focus on school, Trevor is back, and maintains an A license in both the oval and road divisions in iRacing. Trevor is also a talented graphic and website design artist, and we look forward to seeing Trevor’s work on and off the track.

Last but not least we have Justin Kirby. Justin is a 28 year old from Oregon, WI. Currently, Justin is working for Cardinal Health, but plans on returning to college to obtain a degree in computer systems information. Justin, along with Trevor and Tim, has had an equally long career in simulation racing, ironically enough starting online simulation racing in the mid 90s as well. Even more ironically is the fact that he also started by playing the same NASCAR Racing 2 simulation. He now is currently running the iRacing simulation and maintains a Pro Oval and A Road class licenses.

As always, CoRe Racing is excited about its iRacing future with these ultra experienced simulation racing pros. Welcome to the team guys!
